Guidance for Traveling Through Life

(~ 5 min read) Good morning. A man had been saving for years to travel to a distant land. Each day, he passed by a local travel agency but thought it was a waste of time and money to inquire about the travel agent's knowledge of the destination he had long desired.

The day finally came for the man's trip of a lifetime. He boarded the ship that would carry him to the land he'd only dreamed of and saw pictures of in a book in the local library. If the country was as great as he expected, he wasn't sure if he'd ever return home.

After a week of traveling across the ocean, the man arrived at the busiest port in his dreamland. The hustle and bustle of people gave the weary traveler a boost of energy. He could hardly contain his excitement as he waited to get off the boat. The man pushed passed a group who were listening to a member of the ship's crew explaining something about the city the man was inching to explore. The excited man jumped into the first cab he saw and told the driver to hurry to his hotel.

However, the man took him a few blocks from the ship and began robbing him of his possessions. The man fled and ran into the strange city with only a wallet, a tattered shirt, and dirty shoes. He asked for help from people on the street, but everyone ignored him. He wondered for hours before coming to a police station, where he was ridiculed and escorted back to the pier with no justice being served. The man sat alone, crying and miserable as he looked at his dreamland being only a nightmare.

Days later, he made it home, vowing never to leave again. He stopped at the travel agency and explained his ordeal. "I wish you would have talked to me. I could have saved you the pain and suffering you with through. As you see, I am from that country."

Today's thought: "It's a shame to go through life ignoring the ultimate guide to life, the Bible, considering the author knows where your life is going."

Closing: Proverbs 20:24 NIV says, "A person's steps are directed by the Lord. How, then, can anyone understand their own way?" It is eternally dangerous to dismiss the one guide in life, the Bible, that describes the path we all walk. How many have heard a message about Jesus' sacrifice for the world and its sins? Could we count the times we've dismissed a message or song about the Bible? What anger has been brought to our lips or those of friends or loved ones at some injustice that "proves" God is not real?

Yet today, we can pull dozens of examples from the news headlines that the Bible has discussed. There is no better guide to understanding and detailing the human experience than the Bible. It is a reason that it has stood the test of time and threat for thousands of years. I implore everyone to trust God, as he can steer anyone away from a destination they never wanted to visit. Trust God today.
